Small Things?!! Thought we weren't supposed to "Sweat the Small Stuff" - I know that's what a lot of you are saying when you see the Blog Title.
But this isn't about sweating the small stuff - this is about APPRECIATING the small stuff. I've noticed so many people complain about what isn't happening they forget to see what is happening.
So, I'm single, have grown kids and one adult grandchild who is currently living in Japan with her Air Force husband and their adorable son. I also have 3 grandsons that live near me and a grandson that lives in Virginia. The small stuff matters , things like a simple Facetime call from Japan to talk to my granddaughter and see my great-grandson (I'm not old enough for one of those!).
My oldest daughter moved to Lima with her youngest daughter (my granddaughter) and I see them few and far between sadly. My youngest and her two boys and husband live about 10 minutes from me so I get to see them often and my son - well he's in northern Ohio helping take care of his girlfriends parents sheep farm.
Have you ever thought "I'm the only one that cares?" when your trying to keep your home neat? or "Why doesn't he lend me a hand, he knows I'm tired" Or "I wish my kids would just" ... you fill in the blank. Yet what we don't often notice are the things we are so busy noticing someone isn't doing for us, are keeping us from noticing what they may have done for us.
For example: My grandsons are loving, sweet, all boy boys and often test Mom and Dad's patience to the end. However, those same sweet loving boys in the same day they're testing patience may simply look at one of or both of their parents and randomly say "I love you" That "I love you" IS the small thing. It came from nowhere, it was random and it wasn't asked. It was from the heart. So it's appreciated.
Your spouse may not help you with dinner dishes or laundry, but did they warm up your car, or fill up your tank, or maybe just did something as simple as hugging you on a bad work day. Those are the small things. Always open your eyes and see the beauty around you. It makes life so much sunnier!!
